We are delighted to launch our Fifth International Plagiarism Conference, which will take place 16-18 July 2012 at the impressive Sage Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, one of the most iconic buildings on the Newcastle Gateshead Quayside.

We are especially pleased that you have chosen to join us to celebrate 10 years of pioneering research in plagiarism and academic integrity for what promises to be the largest and most successful conference ever. In 2010 250 delegates from the global academic community shared their experiences and expertise in this area. The wide variety of delegates attending the conference, ranging from teachers and tutors, to those who support students at all stages of the academic process, along with representatives from accreditation and regulatory bodies, demonstrates the importance of a cross-sectoral approach which spans education at all levels.

Now, in its fifth iteration the conference has established a reputation as a forum for worldwide good practice in this area. The 2012 event places the student at the heart of the learning process, whilst showcasing innovative approaches to addressing plagiarism and authenticity from the global academic community. Delegates attending the conference increasingly reflect the global scope of this topic, and previous conferences have attracted practitioners from the UK and Europe, US, Australia, Asia and the Middle East.

Our keynote speakers are prominent figures in the global academic community, including Dr Virginia Barbour, Secretary of the Committee on Publication Ethics, Dr Tara Brabazon, Professor of Communication, Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, University of Ontario Institute of Technology, Dr Tracey Bretag, Director: Global Experience Program, Division of Business, University of South Australia, New York-based writer and filmmaker, Kirby Ferguson and Jonathan Zittrain, internationally-known cyber law scholar and writer, Harvard University.
